Thai Wedding Traditions

When planning a wedding party in Asia there are many different events that need to be performed in order for the couple to marry. While Thai culture isn’t as intensely influenced simply by western traditions as it once was, there are still many traditional customs to get followed and discovered on the christmas season like a wedding ceremony.

Probably the most important parts of a thailänder wedding is the ceremony referred to as khan maak. During this wedding ceremony the groom and his family group will shape a retraite to take trays (khanhmaak) filled with offerings for the bride’s home. The offerings are usually coins, betel peanuts, rice, incense sticks and candles, bouquets, and various other auspicious items that signify take pleasure in, prosperity, virility, and long life. The khan maak is usually carried towards the bride’s home with a tune and show up that portrays the groom’s generosity.

When the khan maak has been delivered to the bride’s residence, the parents of the groom and bride should meet as a way to discuss how much of the dowry is to be paid. This is known as sin grass and it has similar to what would be called a dowry in the west. After the dowry is decided, the representatives of the bridegroom and bride will have the monks execute a blessing to make sure that their marital relationship will be full of love and happiness.

During this service the groom’s family will give you a purple cloth for the bride’s mom to ornament more than her body and head. Then the bridegroom and bride-to-be will hold hands and be registered together with a thread that may be looped around both of their heads. This is to symbolize that they are signing up for families jointly but remain independent persons as well.

Following this wedding ceremony, the parents in the groom and bride will prepare a dish of popped rice, beans, sesame seed products, paddies, blossoms, and a red pad that presents their dowry. They will then go to the bride’s home and ask her father whenever they can present this to his daughter in her wedding day. He’ll then offer permission to get the dowry to be presented at the marriage ceremony.

The soon-to-be husband will also generate merit with respect to his ancestors and forefathers by offering cash and food for the monks which will be attending the marriage. The family of the soon-to-be husband will also execute thai friendly a ritual called sao yang where they are going to release captive animals and give money to monks in honor of the ancestors.

On the day from the wedding party, the few will wear a regular Thai costume and the wedding ceremony will begin using a prayer. The couple will likely then exchange rings as well as the groom will place a garland around his bride’s throat. The family and friends will then ribbon and bow to the wedding couple and congratulate them on their wedding.
